Plot summary
Oscar Madison lives in Sarasota, Florida, where he covers a weak minor league ball club and plays poker with friends. His son Bruce calls from California to invite him to a wedding the following Sunday: Bruce is marrying Hannah Ungar, Felix Ungar's daughter. Felix flies in from New York, and the two former roommates meet at the Los Angeles airport for the first time in seventeen years. They rent a car for the drive to San Malina. On the road, their old differences resurface, Felix fussing over tidiness and Oscar letting things slide. Felix keeps asking to stop for restrooms, food and pills, and Oscar's cigar burns the map. Felix finds his suitcase missing, left behind at the rental counter, and the directions to the wedding are lost with it.
