Plot summary
Anna Montgomery, a teacher from Surrey, England, arrives in the small Texas town of Elma on an exchange program and finds her students convinced they are destined for failure. Trying to reach them, she uses a broken globe to demonstrate soccer and decides to form a team, entering the kids in a league in Austin. Sheriff's Deputy Tom Palmer signs on as co-coach, and he also develops a romantic interest in Anna. Their first meeting with the league's top side, the Knights, ends in an 18-0 defeat. Then Juan Morales, a talented new student, arrives, and the team must persuade his hesitant mother to let him join.
