Biography

Dan Stevens is an English actor whose first professional job came in 2004, playing Orlando in a touring As You Like It for director Peter Hall, a debut that drew strong notices from British and American critics and a commendation at the Ian Charleson Awards. He became known around the world as Matthew Crawley in the period drama Downton Abbey, and he took the parts of the Beast in Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast (2017) and of David Haller in the FX series Legion, which brought him critical praise. His feature credits include The Guest (2014), which earned him a Saturn Award nomination, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014), Marshall (2017), The Man Who Invented Christmas (2017), Apostle (2018), The Rental (2020), Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020), Cuckoo (2024) and The Ritual (2025). He has narrated more than 30 audiobooks, including Casino Royale, Wolf Hall and War Horse.
