Plot summary
Thomas Richardson reaches a remote Welsh island in 1905, presenting himself to its community as a convert. His sister, Jennifer, is a prisoner of the cult that runs the island, which has demanded a ransom before she can go free. Malcolm Howe is the leader, and he founded the group with two other men, Frank and Quinn. The followers hold that a blood sacrifice made their barren island fertile. Thomas was a missionary before he lost his faith, and he keeps his own purpose hidden while he searches for a way to reach Jennifer. On the island he crosses paths with Andrea, Malcolm's daughter.
