Plot summary
Three years after defeating Mechagodzilla, Kong holds territory in Hollow Earth and searches for others of his kind. On the surface, Godzilla keeps order among humans and the Titans, killing Titanus Scylla after an attack on Rome and settling in the Colosseum. An observation post that Monarch keeps underground registers a signal no one can identify. It reaches Jia, the only known survivor of the Iwi people of Skull Island, who begins having visions at school, and worries her adoptive mother, the Kong expert Dr. Ilene Andrews. Godzilla senses it as well, leaves Rome and draws radiation from a nuclear plant in France, which Monarch reads as preparation for a threat. Andrews, Jia, Titan veterinarian Trapper and podcaster Bernie Hayes go below to trace the signal and find the outpost destroyed.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Legendary did not hold the rights to Mothra when post-production began, so a placeholder monster named "Phosphera" stood in until the rights were secured; Adam Wingard said Mothra was part of the plan from the first draft.
- A mostly visual-effects unit flew to Rio de Janeiro to shoot plates and gather aerial photography and Lidar data for a digital recreation of the city, and Surfers Paradise was turned into the Rio beach where the climactic battle starts.
- Skar King was designed as a long, skinny orangutan to contrast with Kong; supervisor Kevin Smith compared the pair to "Mike Tyson" versus a "shifty and more graceful" fighter, and his long arms required motion capture with extensions and prosthetics.
- Shimo was designed to balance beauty and menace and to move in a cat-like way rather than with Godzilla's brutality, and her ice breath was built from up to 30 layers of effects, including frozen vapor and ice shards.
- Wingard and Ongaro paid tribute to Godzilla Minus One by recreating, for the Rome sequence, a shot from its trailer of the ground bursting beneath Godzilla's footfall; the Egypt battle was inspired by the Roddy Piper and Keith David fight in They Live.
- With $572.5 million worldwide against a production budget of $135-150 million, the film became the highest-grossing entry in the Monsterverse and in both the Godzilla and King Kong franchises.
