Biography

Connie Nielsen is a Danish actress who started out on Denmark's revue and variety stages with her mother, and later studied drama in Rome and Milan after moving to Paris at 18. Her first major English-language role came in The Devil's Advocate (1997), which led to parts in Permanent Midnight (1998), Rushmore (1998) and Soldier (1998). She played Lucilla in Ridley Scott's Gladiator (2000) and returned to the role in Gladiator II (2024), and she is known as Queen Hippolyta across the DC Extended Universe, beginning with Wonder Woman (2017). Other films include Mission to Mars (2000), One Hour Photo (2002), Basic (2003), The Hunted (2003), Nymphomaniac: Vol. I (2013), Nobody (2021) and Nobody 2 (2025). She won Denmark's Bodil award for Brødre and was nominated for Best Actress at the European Film Awards, and appeared on television in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Close to Me (2021).
