An epidemic spreads across the world, and people lose their senses one at a time. Smell goes first, after spells of crying. Susan works on a team of epidemiologists searching for the cause. Michael cooks at a busy restaurant beside her flat in Glasgow. They meet while the outbreak widens, and love follows. As more senses fail, daily life grows harder, and civil authorities try to keep order.
