Bob Odenkirk
Biography
Bob Odenkirk is an American actor and screenwriter who was born in Berwyn, Illinois, and got his start writing for Saturday Night Live in 1987. He went on to co-create and star in the HBO sketch show Mr. Show with Bob and David, and he won two Primetime Emmy Awards for his variety writing. He became widely known as the lawyer Saul Goodman on Breaking Bad and its spinoff Better Call Saul, which brought him six Emmy nominations for lead actor in a drama. His film credits include Nebraska (2013), The Post (2017), Incredibles 2 (2018) and Little Women (2019), as well as the action thrillers Nobody (2021) and Nobody 2 (2025), on which he was both star and producer. He directed Let's Go to Prison (2006) and also The Brothers Solomon (2007). In 2025 he made his Broadway debut in Glengarry Glen Ross, a performance that earned him a Tony nomination.

A role that slipped away
Odenkirk was considered to play Michael Scott in The Office pilot, but Steve Carell got the part. In the show's final season, Odenkirk guested as a Philadelphia manager much like Michael Scott.
Behind the camera
Odenkirk wrote and acted in the Second City Mainstage show Flag Burning Permitted in Lobby Only during his final summer hiatus. For that show he created the character "Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker" for Chris Farley, later reprised on SNL.
Early training
Odenkirk met Robert Smigel at the Players Workshop, and their collaboration lasted for years and brought Odenkirk to Saturday Night Live.
Behind the camera
In April 2020, with Better Call Saul nearing its end, Odenkirk set up Cal-Gold Pictures, his own production company. Ian Friedman, once a Comedy Central vice president, led television there, and the company reached a first-look agreement with Sony Pictures Television.
