Plot summary
Baku, in the Russian Empire, is a city of oil. Ali Khan Shirvanshir comes from a Muslim family with power there. Nino Kipiani is a Georgian Orthodox Christian, the daughter of a wealthy household in the same city. The two fall in love. Malik, a friend of Ali's, tries to bring their parents to accept a marriage. World War I breaks out in Europe.
