Plot summary
Jerry Stahl is nearing the end of a drug rehabilitation program. He quits his fast food restaurant job when Kitty, a woman he finds attractive, pulls into the drive-through. They check into a motel, and Jerry tells her about his life while flashbacks show his working years. After moving from New York City to Los Angeles, Jerry, already dependent on prescription medications, befriends a fellow addict, Nicky. Nicky and his girlfriend Vola urge Jerry to marry Sandra, Vola's friend, so that Sandra can get a green card. Through her job at a television studio, Sandra gets Jerry work writing for the comedy series Mr. Chompers, where he draws on memories of his childhood for scripts.
