  1. A change of course

Before turning to acting, Salmon was the drummer in a punk rock band called the Friction, which he formed with three high school friends; the band released a 7-inch EP and a live cassette and played around Luton in 1979 and 1980.

  2. A role that slipped away

In 2008, there were rumors Salmon would take the lead role of The Doctor after David Tennant, but Matt Smith got it. In 2020, writer Steven Moffat said he pictured Salmon's character as a later version of the Doctor.

  3. Beyond film

Salmon plays trumpet and leads his own jazz quartet. The group has performed at the Dorchester Grill Room and at events including the Cheltenham Jazz Festival.
