Plot summary
Long ago an alliance of Old Gods, Amazons, Atlanteans, humans and visitors from elsewhere defeats Darkseid's invasion of Earth, and the three Mother Boxes that power his Unity are split up and hidden. Millennia later, Superman's death reactivates them. Steppenwolf, a disgraced lieutenant seeking Darkseid's favor, arrives on Themyscira by portal and battles the Amazons for their Box. Diana Prince tells Bruce Wayne, and the pair set out to gather metahumans to defend the planet. Arthur Curry refuses. Bruce finds Barry Allen, who joins with enthusiasm. Diana finds Victor Stone, who joins after Parademons abduct his father Silas and other S.T.A.R. Labs workers for humanity's Box. Steppenwolf seizes the Atlantean Box, and Arthur joins the group.

- The completion of the film cost $70 million for visual effects, score, and editing, with new material shot in October 2020.
- Whedon added nearly 80 pages to the script, and Wagner estimated Whedon's cut used only about 10% of the footage Snyder shot. Composer Tom Holkenborg was replaced by Danny Elfman halfway through post-production.
- Tom Holkenborg, also known as Junkie XL, restarted from scratch to score the film; his 54-track score runs 3 hours 54 minutes and surpassed Ben-Hur (1959) by nearly an hour to become the longest musical score in film history.
