Peter Coyote
Biography
Peter Coyote is an American actor who has also worked as a director, screenwriter, narrator, and author. Born in New York City and raised in Englewood, New Jersey, he studied at Grinnell College and San Francisco State University before training at the San Francisco Actor's Workshop and joining the San Francisco Mime Troupe, where he acted, wrote scripts, and directed. He moved into film with Die Laughing (1980), played the scientist Keys in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), and took his first starring role in Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann (1982). Other credits include Southern Comfort (1981), Cross Creek (1983), Jagged Edge (1985), Outrageous Fortune (1987), Kika (1993), Patch Adams (1998), A Walk to Remember (2002), and Femme Fatale (2002). A 1990 guest appearance on Road to Avonlea brought his first Primetime Emmy nomination, and he won a Primetime Emmy for narrating The Roosevelts: An Intimate History. He has also published memoirs and poetry.

Coyote started acting again in 1978, appearing in plays at San Francisco's Magic Theatre. A Hollywood agent approached him while he was playing the lead in Sam Shepard's True West, and his film career began.
