Plot summary
Midnight is a defunct nightclub in a neighborhood gone downhill, and Carol Rivers, just out of a nervous breakdown, inherits it from her uncle Fletcher. Her mother, Betty, wants the property sold, but Carol commits to reopening the club and moves into the building, where she finds rooms with unusual designs and parts of the structure she did not know were there. On her first night on the premises, three men outside see her through a window, and the front door opens and they walk in. When the police arrive, they learn of Carol's psychiatric history and doubt her version of what happened. She is told a Lieutenant Sharpe will contact her, and a man is waiting for her at the club.
