Plot summary
Major Thomas Egan is an officer in the U.S. Air Force stationed at a base near Las Vegas, Nevada, where he lives off base with his wife Molly and their two children. He flew F-16 Falcons before, and his new posting puts him at the controls of an armed MQ-9 Reaper, watching a screen in a bunker while the crew beside him works the mission. He took the assignment after his previous commander told him fighter slots were scarce and that a tour on unmanned aircraft would strengthen his record and his chances of flying again. His crew ranks among the best in the squadron. Molly sees what the work is doing to him.
