Plot summary
Laure Ash joins a crew planning to steal diamonds at the Cannes Film Festival. The stones are on a gold outfit worn by the model Veronica at a premiere. Laure gets close to Veronica while her accomplices Black Tie and Racine stand by. The robbery goes wrong, and Laure carries the diamonds to Paris alone. There a mix-up has her taken for a Parisian woman named Lily, and she keeps that name when she leaves the country. Seven years on she is back in Paris, married to Bruce Watts, the new American ambassador. The photographer Nicolas Bardo photographs her, and the prints go up across the city, where the people she once worked with can see them.
