Nicholas Farrell

Biography

Born in Brentwood in 1955, Nicholas Farrell is an English actor of stage, film and television. His early screen career included Aubrey Montague in Chariots of Fire (1981), and he played Edmund Bertram in a 1983 television adaptation of Mansfield Park. He went on to appear in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984) and The Jewel in the Crown. His screen work includes Shakespeare adaptations: he played Horatio in Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet (1996), a part he had performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and he appeared in Othello (1995), Twelfth Night (1996) and In the Bleak Midwinter (1995); he voiced Hamlet in Shakespeare: The Animated Tales (1992). His film work includes The Iron Lady (2011), as Airey Neave, and Dream Horse (2020). His theater credits include The Cherry Orchard, Camille, The Crucible and performances for the Royal Shakespeare Company in The Merchant of Venice, Julius Caesar and Hamlet.
