Anthony Head
Biography
Anthony Head was an English actor and singer who became a familiar face on British television before finding a wide following playing Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Born in Camden Town, London, he grew up around performers, studied acting at LAMDA and made his television debut in Enemy at the Door. In the 1980s, the Gold Blend coffee commercials made him famous in the UK, and he played Frank N. Furter in a West End revival of The Rocky Horror Show. He later appeared as the prime minister in Little Britain, Uther Pendragon in Merlin and Rupert Mannion in Ted Lasso, and his films included Persuasion (2007), Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011) and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013). He was nominated for a Monte-Carlo TV Festival award for Persuasion and shared a Screen Actors Guild ensemble nomination for Ted Lasso. He also did extensive radio and voice work, including Cabin Pressure, and died in 2026.

Beyond film
In the 1990 to 1991 West End revival of The Rocky Horror Show, staged at London's Piccadilly Theatre, Head took the role of Frank N. Furter. Chrysalis Records put out his version of "Sweet Transvestite" as a single in 1991.
Big break
In the late 1980s, Head became better known for playing the man in the Gold Blend couple, a series of coffee commercials for Nescafé Gold Blend, with Sharon Maughan, running from 1987 to 1993.
