Biography

Patrick Doyle is a Scottish composer and occasional actor who has written music for more than 60 feature films. Born in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, he trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music, graduating in 1975. He began as a performer in the mid-1970s, appearing in television and film, including Chariots of Fire (1981) and Much Ado About Nothing (1993), and became composer and musical director for Kenneth Branagh's Renaissance Theatre Company in 1987. His first film score was Branagh's Henry V (1989), whose song Non Nobis, Domine won an Ivor Novello Award. He scored 14 more Branagh films, among them Dead Again (1991) and As You Like It (2006), and wrote music for Carlito's Way, Sense and Sensibility, Gosford Park, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Brave (2012), and Cinderella. He has received two Academy Award nominations and two Golden Globe nominations, plus lifetime achievement honors from the World Soundtrack Awards and Scottish BAFTA.
