Biography

Rufus Sewell is a British actor who attended London's Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and got his break in 1993 as the unpleasant Tim in Michael Winner's Dirty Weekend, a part Winner gave him after noticing him in a Criterion Theatre production. He became known for villainous parts in films such as The Illusionist (2006), A Knight's Tale (2001) and The Legend of Zorro (2005), and his other film credits include Carrington (1995), Hamlet (1996), Dark City (1998), The Holiday (2006), The Tourist (2010), Judy (2019), The Father (2020) and Old (2021). On stage he originated roles in Tom Stoppard's Arcadia in 1993 and Rock 'n' Roll in 2006, winning an Olivier Award for Best Actor and a Tony nomination, and his television work includes Middlemarch, Cold Comfort Farm, The Man in the High Castle, Victoria and The Diplomat.
