Plot summary
Richard Thorncroft found fame in the 1980s playing Detective Bruce Mindhorn, an officer with a cybernetic eye that works as an optical lie detector, on a series shot on the Isle of Man. Twenty-five years on, he makes a living advertising embarrassing products while his former co-star Pete Eastman fronts a spin-off series that has overshadowed the original. On the island, police are hunting Paul Melly, an escaped man wanted for murder. Melly states that he will talk to no one except the detective, whom he takes for a real person. Richard comes back to assist the case, hoping to revive his career, and annoys the local officers. He also looks up Patricia Deville, his co-star and former partner.
