Biography

Jeffrey Combs is an American actor who was born in Oxnard, California, and raised in Lompoc. He attended the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts and the University of Washington, then worked in West Coast playhouses before moving to Los Angeles in 1980. His first film role came in Honky Tonk Freeway (1981), and his first horror part followed in Frightmare (1983). His best-known horror role is Herbert West in Re-Animator (1985) and its sequels, while on television he played Brunt and Weyoun on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Shran on Star Trek: Enterprise. Other horror credits include From Beyond (1986), The Pit and the Pendulum (1991), Necronomicon (1993), Castle Freak (1995), The Frighteners (1996), House on Haunted Hill (1999), and Would You Rather (2012). He has also voiced the Question on Justice League Unlimited and Ratchet on Transformers: Prime.

    Combs got his first film part in Honky Tonk Freeway (1981), an unnamed drive-in teller. Two years later, in Frightmare (1983), he took his first horror film role.

    Combs studied at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, then trained in the Professional Actor's Training Program at the University of Washington, where he graduated in the late 1970s.

    According to Combs, Weyoun was the Star Trek role he liked best, and he also had a lot of input into how the character was developed.

    In the DS9 episode "The Dogs of War", Combs played both Weyoun and Brunt, joining the small group of Star Trek actors who have portrayed two characters in one episode. He hoped to put them in the same scene, but logistics and expense worked against it.
