Plot summary
Leffert's Corners is a depopulated town where grotesque creatures have bred for decades in the ground below the cemetery. Some of the townspeople plan to destroy that graveyard. Violent thieves arrive to dig up money buried in a grave, cutting the plan short. John Martense, out of prison after a crime he did not commit, comes back and visits Knaggs, a mortician, for a map to the grave holding his father's heist money. At an abandoned church he meets Cathryn, who wants revenge for her sister's murder, and Dr. Haggis, the town doctor.
