Plot summary
Detective Mike Reilly works for the New York City police. Terry Huston is a researcher at the Department of Health. Several bodies are found in the city, all of them bleeding from the eyes and other orifices. A contagious virus is ruled out. Reilly and Huston team up to learn what killed these people. They find that every victim had visited an interactive website, feardotcom.com, which shows voyeuristic torture murder.

- The film was originally rated NC-17 in the United States due to extreme violence, and only after multiple trims and appeals was it re-rated R by the MPAA for "violence including grisly images of torture, nudity and language".
- Producer Moshe Diamant originally hired Josephine Coyle to write an erotic horror film for Zalman King about a woman who uses her sexuality and the internet to lure victims; Coyle's reading that energy cannot be created or destroyed turned it into a murdered woman's revenge on her killer.
- Although the story is set in New York, director William Malone had not intended to shoot in Luxembourg, but producers had scouted locations there that they believed "looked like" New York; Malone said the film ended up a "weird take on New York rather than being New York".
