Doug Bradley

Biography

Doug Bradley is an English actor who has spent much of his career as Pinhead, the Cenobite leader of the Hellraiser series. He was born in Liverpool and played the character through the first eight Hellraiser installments, which were adapted from books by his friend and former classmate Clive Barker. In Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988) and Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992) he also appeared as Captain Elliot Spencer, the man Pinhead once was. He played Maynard in Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines (2012) and starred in the 2010 Anglo-Spanish horror Exorcismus, and he lent his voice to the Sith Emperor in the game Star Wars: The Old Republic. He has narrated songs for Cradle of Filth, works as a producer and voice actor with the animation company Renga Media, and wrote Sacred Monsters, a book about horror masks.

Did you know?!

A first
Bradley became so skilled at applying and removing the Pinhead appliances and costume that some Hellraiser films credited him as an assistant make-up artist under the name Bill Bradley, using his middle name.
A first
Bradley belongs to a group of just seven actors who have portrayed one horror character in six or more consecutive films. The others are Christopher Lee, Robert Englund, Warwick Davis, Brad Dourif, Tobin Bell and Roger L. Jackson.
Beyond film
Bradley narrated several Cradle of Filth songs, starting with 2000's "Her Ghost in the Fog", and could not appear in the music video, so David McEwen replaced him.
Behind the camera
Bradley wrote Sacred Monsters: Behind the Mask of the Horror Actor, a book that looks at how masks have been used in society and in horror films.
Behind the camera
Bradley belongs to Renga Media, a UK animation company that made the independent Dominator films and shorts. There he divided his job roles between producer and voice actor.
