Plot summary
Ariel Wolfe's sister Sara survived a party eight years ago at the Vannacutt Psychiatric Institute for the Criminally Insane, an asylum once overseen by Dr. Richard B. Vannacutt. Sara said ghosts killed the guests, no one believed her, and now she is dead. The art dealer Desmond Niles and his men seize Ariel and her friend Paul and bring them to the shuttered building, where Desmond forces Ariel to help him find a figurine of the demon Baphomet said to be hidden there. Dr. Richard Hammer and his assistants Kyle and Michelle are inside as well. Ariel says the building is rigged to keep everyone in for at least twelve hours, and the group splits up to search.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Return to House on Haunted Hill (2007)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The DVD's Navigational Cinema feature turned the film into a choose-your-own-adventure: viewers could manipulate up to seven aspects of the story to create 96 different versions of the film, which was shot on high-definition digital media.
- The interactive branching scenes were not in the script: actor Jeffrey Combs said the script contained no "navigational branching" scenes, and director Victor Garcia admitted the changes only arrived once principal photography had started.
- An additional 60 minutes of video were shot to incorporate the interactive choices, though most only added nudity or gore, and just one choice materially changed the outcome of the story.
- The film was the feature directorial debut of Victor Garcia, who had previously helmed a single short film, and it was also the first screenplay credit for writer William Massa.
