Plot summary
John Reilly, a recovering alcoholic from America, comes into a 12th-century castle in Italy after a distant relative dies. He goes there with Susan, the wife he is estranged from, and Rebecca, the couple's blind teenage daughter. Susan blames John for the drunk driving crash that killed their five-year-old son and cost Rebecca her eyesight. The estate's executor advises the family to stay in the castle until the estate can be sold. Rebecca hears unexplained noises and says a visitor comes to her room at night. John believes her, Susan does not, and John returns to drink. In the dungeons beneath them, something has been held captive for a very long time.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Castle Freak (1995)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Stuart Gordon developed Castle Freak after spotting a poster in producer Charles Band's office showing a Quasimodo-like man chained to a wall and whipped by a woman. Band had no script, but told Gordon he could do whatever he wanted as long as the film kept a castle and a freak.
- Shooting lasted until July 1994 and, per actor Jonathan Fuller's diary, the crew fell a day and a half behind; on July 8, 1994, producer Charles Band arrived at the castle with his wife and father and said filming was to be finished by July 9.
- Stuart Gordon made Castle Freak for about $500,000, taking the job because it would be his first film since Re-Animator that he could release without a rating, and because he got final cut and could cast whoever he wanted.
- Castle Freak was shot in Italy in a castle that producer Charles Band had bought years earlier, and Stuart Gordon had already filmed The Pit and the Pendulum in that same castle four years before.
- Full Moon Productions was in financial trouble while Castle Freak was being made; Gordon said there was no money for one-sheets, so the film had no posters, yet it still found its audience.
