Plot summary
Montag the Magnificent stages elaborate magic shows in a run-down, post-punk Los Angeles. In each trick he seems to kill a beautiful young woman in a brutal, torturous way, but when the trick ends she is alive and unharmed. Later those same women are found dead of the wounds he dealt them on stage. Ed Bigelow, a journalist who has a trust fund and dresses in vintage style, sets out to explain the strange deaths and whether the stage killings and the real ones are the same.
