Plot summary
The film sets out the whole span of time, from the first moments of the universe to its final collapse. Images of the cosmos are set beside images of Earth, where life emerges and spreads, from the planet's smallest living systems to early humans. A narrator carries the viewer through the changes that shaped the world as it stands now, weighing what science and spiritual thought each contribute to the account, and moving between birth and death, the vast scale of the cosmos and the minute detail of life.
