Plot summary
In 1184 BC, King Agamemnon has brought the Greek kingdoms under his rule. Achilles, a mighty warrior, is sickened by the king's brutal leadership. Hector, prince of Troy, and his brother Paris arrive in Sparta to make peace with King Menelaus, and Paris begins an affair with Menelaus's wife, Helen, carrying her away on his homebound ship. Menelaus turns to his elder brother Agamemnon, who agrees to help take Troy because it would give him the Aegean Sea. Odysseus of Ithaca is sent to bring Achilles into the campaign. Achilles asks his mother Thetis what awaits him: a quiet life at home, or death at Troy with lasting fame. He chooses to sail.
