Plot summary
Loretta Sage, once an archaeology researcher, writes romance-adventure novels about Dr. Angela Lovemore and Dash McMahon. Her publisher, Beth Hatten, sends her on a promotional tour beside Alan Caprison, the model who portrays Dash on the book covers, and the readers' fixation on that persona gets the tour off to a poor start. A billionaire, Abigail Fairfax, has located a lost city on a volcanic Atlantic island and is certain that the Crown of Fire, a treasure of King Kalaman and Queen Taha, is hidden there. Because the books draw on Loretta's own research, he wants her to decipher an ancient clue. She declines, so he drugs her and brings her to the island. Alan, who saw the kidnapping, contacts the operative Jack Trainer, and the two track her smart watch to launch a rescue.
