Bo Hopkins

Biography

Bo Hopkins was an American actor who spent much of his career in supporting parts, breaking through with the ensemble cast of George Lucas's American Graffiti (1973). Born in Greenville, South Carolina, he came to acting by way of Kentucky community theater, earned a scholarship to the Pioneer Playhouse in Danville, and went on to study in Los Angeles at the Actors Studio and under Uta Hagen. His first off-Broadway play, Bus Stop, supplied the character name that stuck with him. He accumulated more than 100 film and television parts over four decades, among them The Wild Bunch (1969), The Getaway (1972), The Killer Elite (1975), The Day of the Locust (1975), Midnight Express (1978) and More American Graffiti (1979). On television he played Rockford's attorney John Cooper and Matthew Blaisdel on the first season of Dynasty, and his final film was Hillbilly Elegy (2020).
