Biography

Born in Rahway, Paul Le Mat is an American actor whose breakthrough came with American Graffiti (1973), a coming-of-age film in which he played John Milner. That performance brought critical acclaim and a Golden Globe as New Star of the Year. He followed it with the box office hit Aloha, Bobby and Rose (1975), then starred in Jonathan Demme's comedy Citizens Band (1977), later retitled Handle with Care. He reunited with Demme for Melvin and Howard (1980), playing Melvin Dummar, and earned a Golden Globe nomination. He reprised John Milner in More American Graffiti (1979), voiced Omar in the animated Rock & Rule (1983), and won a second Golden Globe for the television film The Burning Bed (1984). He also starred in Puppet Master (1989), which began a franchise, and later worked in independent films and TV movies, including a role in American History X (1998) and starring in Stateside (2004).
