Rene Auberjonois
Biography
Rene Auberjonois was an American actor whose career began on the stage and later included more than 200 screen credits. Born in Manhattan, he studied at the Carnegie Institute of Technology and worked with Arena Stage and other regional companies, and he was among the first faculty at the Juilliard School's drama division. His Broadway performance in Coco brought him a Tony Award in 1970, and he received three more Tony nominations, plus a Drama Desk Award for Big River. The American Theater Hall of Fame inducted him in 2018. His films included King Kong (1976), Eyes of Laura Mars (1978), Where the Buffalo Roam (1980), Inspector Gadget (1999) and The Patriot (2000), and he sang as Chef Louis in The Little Mermaid (1989). On television he played Clayton Endicott III on Benson, Odo on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Paul Lewiston on Boston Legal, and he directed episodes of Deep Space Nine.

When the Drama Division of the Juilliard School opened in 1968 under John Houseman, Auberjonois was among the original faculty members.

Auberjonois was a founder of Bill Ball's American Conservatory Theater in Pittsburgh, where he took the title parts in "Tartuffe" and "King Lear," then relocated with the company to San Francisco.
