Biography

Lambert Wilson is a French actor, born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1958, who studied acting at the Drama Centre London and made his movie debut in the 1977 film Julia. He became popular in France during the 1980s through films such as La Boum 2, The Public Woman and Rendez-vous, often playing tormented or romantic parts. A seven-time César Award nominee, he won the Jean Gabin prize for his performance as Abbé Pierre in Hiver 54, l'abbé Pierre. His later comedies Same Old Song (1997) and Jet Set helped restore his standing with French audiences, while he is best known internationally as The Merovingian in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, from 2002 and 2003, a role he reprised in The Matrix Resurrections (2021). He also played Jacques Cousteau in The Odyssey (2016) and has worked in musical theater and recorded the album Musicals.
