Plot summary
In 1818, Victor Frankenstein is a professor and researcher in Ingolstadt. He works with chemical elements and magnetic fields, and his aim is to build a man using himself as the model. A mishap in the process brings the creature to life early, malformed and unfinished. Victor, sick with cholera after treating people during an outbreak, cannot stop it from leaving the laboratory. The creature meets fear, hostility and violence wherever it goes. Victor returns to Geneva to recover, and finds that he and the creature are joined by a psychic bond: when the creature is hurt, Victor feels it. In the woods, a blind old man, DeLacey, takes the creature in, treats his wounds and teaches him to speak.
