Plot summary

Fatah is a cheerful farmer in Algeria who has never left his country. His great wish is to bring his cow Jacqueline to the Paris International Agricultural Show, and one day an invitation to the contest does arrive, to the surprise of the whole village. To pay for the journey he borrows money from the men of the village, says goodbye to his wife Naïma and their two daughters, and boards a boat for Marseille with Jacqueline. The crossing swallows all of his money, so from the French coast he has to go on foot toward Paris, the cow walking beside him.
