Plot summary
Serge Tanneur left the stage behind and has lived for three years in solitude on the Île de Ré, where he spends his days riding his bicycle. Gauthier Valence, a television actor whose career is thriving, comes to the island with an offer: a part in his production of Molière's The Misanthrope. Gauthier has the role of Filinte in mind, believing that Serge, withdrawn from society, fits the part. Serge would rather play the title role. Rather than accept or refuse, he proposes that the two of them rehearse together for a week, after which he will decide whether he wants to do the play.
