Biography

Laura Morante is an Italian actress who began as a dancer and turned to the stage at 18 in Carmelo Bene's company. Her first screen role was in Giuseppe Bertolucci's Oggetti smarriti, and she soon appeared in Tragedy of a Ridiculous Man. Her breakout arrived with Nanni Moretti, who cast her as the title character in Sweet Body of Bianca. She worked in Paris, where numerous productions brought her recognition in European art cinema, then returned to Italy and won the David di Donatello award as best actress for Moretti's The Son's Room (2001). She was nominated again for Remember Me, My Love (2003) and won the Silver Ribbon for Love Is Eternal While It Lasts. She drew attention as Madame Jourdain in Moliere (2007), voiced Elastigirl in the Italian dub of The Incredibles, and in 2012 made her directorial debut with Cherry on the Cake, earning a David nomination for best new director.
