Plot summary
In London in 1960, Laura Quinn is the only woman in management at the London Diamond Corporation, where her work goes unacknowledged and men with less experience are promoted past her. The night janitor, Mr. Hobbs, tells her she is about to be dismissed, then proposes a way out: they will remove a small number of diamonds from the vault, enough for both of them to retire comfortably and too few for anyone to notice. Quinn, with few prospects elsewhere, agrees. She collects the vault's combination codes at a gala held by the company president, and the two build their plan around a gap in the corporation's new camera system.
