John Litel
Biography
John Litel was an American film and television actor who trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts after World War I and began on the Broadway stage. Born in Albany, Wisconsin, he started appearing in films in 1929. In the 1930s he joined the Warner Bros. Stock Company and appeared in dozens of Warner Bros. films, eventually acting in more than 200 movies. He often played supporting parts as hard-nosed cops and district attorneys, and he was Carson Drew, Nancy Drew's attorney father, in four films in 1938 and 1939. His credits included They Drive by Night (1940), Knute Rockne All American (1940), They Died with Their Boots On (1941), and Scaramouche (1952). On television he played the governor of California in the second season of Disney's Zorro and Dan Murchison in nine episodes of Stagecoach West in 1960 and 1961. His last film role was in Nevada Smith in 1966.
