Plot summary
Car theft and an armed gas station robbery mark the partnership of Johnny Stone with the mobster Frank Wilson in New York's Hell's Kitchen, over the objections of Johnny's sister Madge. For a pawnshop robbery, Johnny gives Frank a pistol that he has taken from Madge's fiancé, Fred Burke. The pawnbroker resists and raises the alarm, and Frank shoots him and leaves the weapon behind, so Johnny cannot put it back in Fred's room as he meant to. The police find the gun at the scene, reject Fred's alibi, and Fred is arrested and convicted of murder. Fingerprint evidence convicts Frank and Johnny for the gas station robbery, and all three men go to Sing Sing, where Frank presses Johnny to keep silent.
