Plot summary
Nancy Drew is a teenager at a school where a wealthy woman, Mary Eldredge, has promised a $250,000 donation to her alma mater. The students there have been counting on the money for a swimming pool for the school. The check never reaches Carson Drew, Nancy's father, the lawyer it was meant for, and Mary cannot be found, so it appears that she has backed out of the gift. Her classmates at the school, annoyed that she raised their hopes, turn against her. Nancy sets out to learn what really happened to Mary, helped by Ted Nickerson, a neighbor and her closest friend.
