Doris Lloyd
Biography
Doris Lloyd was a British actress who started out as a teenager with a repertory company in her native Liverpool, later appearing on the London stage and in Broadway productions that included several Ziegfeld Follies editions. She made her film debut in the 1920 silent picture The Shadow Between, then settled in the United States and made her first American film in 1925. Over a career that stretched from 1925 to 1967 she appeared in more than 150 films. Her roles took her from the Russian spy Mrs. Travers in Disraeli (1929) to the housekeeper Mrs. Watchett in The Time Machine (1960). She was best known for her parts in the Tarzan movies starring Johnny Weissmuller, and she voiced a rose in Disney's Alice in Wonderland (1951). Her later small appearances included Mary Poppins (1964) and The Sound of Music (1965).
