Plot summary
Dr. Maurice Lamar runs a thriving cosmetic surgery business in Paris, making wealthy women beautiful. His old friend Max Pascal visits to borrow money for his research, but Maurice turns him down and offers a job and a partnership instead, which Max refuses. Maurice presents his latest work, Eve Caron, and calls her perfect. Her husband Marcel prefers a wife only slightly beautiful, not one who draws every man's eye, so he divorces her, and Maurice takes her as his wife. For their honeymoon the couple travels to the Riviera for a beauty convention, taking Anne, Maurice's naturally pretty secretary, who secretly loves him. Eve guards her looks so carefully, and spends so long preparing, that she and Maurice never reach the banquet held in his honor.
