Shirley Temple
Biography
Shirley Temple was an American actress, singer, and dancer who started film work as a small child and became a top box-office star in the 1930s. Born in Santa Monica, California, in 1928, she began her film career in 1931 at age three. Stand Up and Cheer! (1934) was her breakthrough film, and she became well known for Bright Eyes (1934), receiving a special Juvenile Academy Award in 1935 for her work as a juvenile performer. Popular 1930s films included The Little Colonel (1935), Curly Top (1935), The Littlest Rebel (1935), Heidi (1937), and Wee Willie Winkie (1937). In the 1940s, her few hits included The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (1947) and Fort Apache (1948). Her final screen appearance came in A Kiss for Corliss in 1949, and she retired from films in 1950. Later she hosted the television anthology series Shirley Temple's Storybook and The Shirley Temple Show and had her own radio series, Junior Miss.
