Plot summary
After serving time in Sing Sing, Eddie Ellison marries Kay, and five years later the couple have a six-year-old daughter, Shirley. Eddie's friend Larry Scott, also a former convict, is engaged to Jane, who teaches Shirley to dance. Eddie finds Larry work as a chauffeur for his employer, the factory owner Stuart Carson. When Mrs. Carson's pearl necklace is reported missing, the private investigator Welch, the man who once secured Eddie's conviction, alerts the National Insurance Company that he suspects the two chauffeurs, and he gives Carson the details of their prison records. Carson dismisses both men from his household.
