Sara Haden

Biography

Sara Haden was an American actress who appeared in films from the 1930s through the 1950s and on television into the mid-1960s. Born in Galveston, Texas, in 1898, she received acting training as a child from her mother, the actress Charlotte Walker. Her first stage part was as a maid in a play. After years in stock theater and with Walter Hampden's company, she reached Broadway in the 1920s. Haden made her film debut in 1934 in Spitfire, then became an MGM contract player, often cast in stern, humorless parts, most notably as Aunt Milly Forrest in fourteen of the sixteen Andy Hardy films. Her credits included Captain January (1936), The Shop Around the Corner (1940), Woman of the Year (1942), and The Bishop's Wife (1947). Her last film was Andy Hardy Comes Home in 1958, and she kept working in television until a guest appearance on Dr. Kildare in 1965.
