Biography
Olivia Colman is an English actress who moves between comedy and drama, often in independent film. Born in Norwich in 1974, she trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and found her breakthrough with the Channel 4 comedy Peep Show. She won BAFTAs for Twenty Twelve and Accused, starred in the ITV crime drama Broadchurch, and took a Golden Globe for The Night Manager. Playing Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown brought her a Golden Globe and an Emmy. Her performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite (2018) won the Academy Award for Best Actress, and she earned further nominations for The Father (2020) and The Lost Daughter (2021). Other films include Hot Fuzz (2007), Tyrannosaur (2011), The Iron Lady (2011), The Lobster (2015), Empire of Light (2022), Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) and Wonka (2023).

First role
Colman's first professional acting job came in 2000, when she was 26, on the BBC Two comedy sketch show Bruiser.
A role that slipped away
Colman left Peep Show after her agent said she was too closely linked to Mitchell and Webb's work and should widen her horizons, a choice made with tears. She appeared on the program less often until it ended in 2015.
Getting ready for a role
In 2018, Colman played Queen Anne in the satirical dark comedy The Favourite, appearing alongside Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz. To prepare for the part, she put on 2 st 7 lbs, which is 35 lb or 16 kg.
