Plot summary
Ivan Locke is a construction foreman. He is due in Birmingham to supervise the largest non-nuclear, non-military concrete pour in European history. That evening he learns that Bethan, a colleague from a Croydon job he was unfaithful with seven months ago, has gone into premature labor. His wife and their sons are at home waiting to watch a football match. His own father abandoned the family when Locke was a child, and Locke is determined not to do the same, so he drives to London to be with Bethan.

- Almost the whole film was shot inside a BMW X5 that was towed down the M6 motorway on a low flatbed trailer. The shoot ran over six nights, the crew taking breaks only to swap the three cameras' memory cards.
- The other characters are heard only on the car's speakerphone. Their lines were recorded in real time, vehicle and road noise included, as they called from a conference room that served as the film's multiple "locations".
